VA was tasked with building a web-based training portal, allowing RCTA to register students, manage courses, deliver grades and surveys, print certificates, send messages, as well as a multitude of additional features. The requirements for the solution had various technical intricacies that were further exacerbated by a complicated RFP bid process and accelerated timeline. VA spent an extensive period of time with RCTA’s stakeholders to architect an effective solution to meet their widespread needs.
RCTA (Regional Counterdrug Training Academy) is a program of the MS National Guard whose mission is to provide no cost, hands-on drug enforcement training to Local, State, and Federal law enforcement agencies. RCTA is the oldest and most established of five facilities throughout the United States. The organization emphasizes hands-on training within a highly secure environment and maintains a nine-building field-training facility for students to practice what they learn in the classroom.
Streamlined Course Registration Exceeds Expectations
VA delivered a highly successful and user-friendly training system that exceeded RCTA’s needs and expectations, ahead of schedule. The software is comprised of a dynamically generated course list and registration system that was implemented on the main rcta.org website. The course list allows users to browse the courses that are available and allows RCTA representatives to begin their process of registering students, which ties into the back-end component. The system was developed to accommodate a wide range of user types with varying levels of permissions and use-case scenarios. Students logged into the system can view the status of their enrollment, view and print their transcripts, download class materials, print certificates, contact their agency representative, and complete course surveys distributed by RCTA admins. Mid-level RCTA representatives and instructors have the capabilities to manage enrollment, create/edit/delete classes and courses, upload documents, print rosters, deploy surveys, send mass emails, among other administrative features. Administrators inherit all features of RCTA representatives, plus gain the ability to manage the app from higher levels, such as managing user accounts and permissions, running reports, adding events to the RCTA calendar, as well as other high-level management features.
