MD Anderson needed a web-based software system that would track patient quality-of-life metrics in order to improve patient care and gather data for inter-departmental use in medical research efforts. It was imperative for Virtual Atlantic to address their interaction design issues related to how patients would interact with their patient surveys and in what ways doctors of various specialties would like to process and view information.

A Better Way to Track Patient Outcomes
VA provided a solution that includes a patient survey component, as well as an administration component for MD Anderson staff to analyze data. We created a kiosk-like wizard that guides patients through questions one at a time. The interface was designed with accessibility in mind, including large and readable text, generously sized buttons, and excess white space to improve the overall experience. The survey experience changes depending on how many visits the patient has made to MD Anderson. The administration panel of the system comprises the bulk of the software. It features the ability for administrators to view patient survey information, view survey progress, and download survey data in a variety of formats. The admin tool is also built to allow physicians of varying specialties to search for and access information quickly and easily so that it can be effectively utilized for medical studies. This centralized solution has completely changed the way MD Anderson’s medical team charts the course of treatment for their patients.
